Lisa Stanley began practicing meditation in the 1970’s as a student of Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche. She became a teacher and meditation instructor in the Shambhala tradition in 1985. She has staffed numerous meditation retreats and lived at Karmê Chöling, a retreat center in rural Vermont, for several years.
Lisa holds a Master’s degree in both Clinical Psychology and Fine Arts. Her experience has included counseling and teaching art in clinical settings and creating public art projects with at-risk groups. She worked for organizations serving the homeless, mentally ill as well as families affected by HIV. She later transitioned into teaching in universities as well as leading meditation and “dharma art” workshops across the country.
Lisa is currently the Director of the Shambhala Meditation Center of Portland Oregon. She continues to teach dharma art and offers meditation instruction to diverse groups and individuals. She also teaches a course on meditation at Reed College.
