Biography

...

Grover Gauntt, is a Founding Teacher of the Zen Peacemaker Order and a dharma successor of Roshi Bernie Glassman. He started studying with Maezumi Roshi at the Zen Center of Los Angeles in 1971 and served as Board Chairman there from 1987 to 1997. After the passing of Maezumi Roshi in 1995, he worked closely with Bernie and started serving full time as Executive Director of the Peacemaker Community in early 1997. He studied at the University of Southern California and received an MBA in finance from the Wharton school of the University of Pennsylvania.  Feeling that his path was to unfold from a lay perspective, he pursued a professional career in real estate and finance forming Western Property Research, a real estate consulting firm that operated from 1984 to 1997. He has two sons, John who is an evangelical Pastor and Parker, a writer and teacher of English literature.  Baptized as a Congregationalist and raised as a Presbyterian, his interfaith studies have opened him to several ongoing paths.  His Native American interests include a long relationship with the Oglala Lakota on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.  He continues to practice and study in the Ramakrishna Order of Hinduism and he loves to participate in Sufi Dhikr.  The statement of Ramakrishna “As many faiths, so many paths” rings deeply true.   He leads street retreats wherever invited and co-leads a variety of bearing witness retreats internationally. His home practice place is the Hudson River Peacemaker Center in Yonkers, New York.
