He is currently working on a project to introduce mindfulness training more widely to prosecutors, public defenders, and judges, as a way to bring compassion, fairness, and humanity to the criminal justice system.

Charlie has a long history of social innovation, including serving as the founding dean of CUNY Law School, which is dedicated to training public interest lawyers, and serving as the president of the Nathan Cummings Foundation, through which he launched the Center for Contemplative Mind in Society, Demos, and other progressive organizations.
